Change the Blinking Rate of Your Windows 10 Cursor with These Simple Steps

You have the option of either making the cursor blink faster or making it blink slower. If this is a setting with which you frequently have a problem, then the ability to learn how to change the cursor blink rate in Windows 7 can be a real lifesaver.

Some users complain that the cursor blinks too fast (or slow) in their computers, while other people would like to know how to speed up (or slow down) the cursor blink rate. To meet the two opposite needs, the method to change cursor blink rate must be mastered. And this text will tell you how to realize it with only two steps.

How to make Windows 10 Cursor blink faster or slower

Open Search panel by Windows+F hotkeys, type cursor blink rate in the box, choose Settings and click Change cursor blink rate (or Keyboard) in the results.

I have constantly observed that when one of my drawings becomes large (say up to 10 Mbytes on disk, containing many layers and lots of stuff, among which many text boxes), then, when working in linux, it becomes painfully slow to use the text tool (and only the text tool): when trying to position the text tool cursor inside a text box, the blinking cursor may appear 1-2 seconds after clicking. Also at the same time the cursor indicators on horizontal and vertical ruler lag severely after the actual mouse position. This happens even when most of the layers are hidden. Hiding the rulers or using the contour display mode does not improve the reactivity, either.

In earlier tests, the performance difference did not really reproduce with Inkscape 0.48.5 on OS X 10.7.5 using the test case attached here (unlike the test case from bug #1219794, comment #4).This report (bug #1398032) - while mostly focusing on differences between two different OS (see summary line) - did test with different versions of Inkscape on each of the systems (the faster Windows build was 0.48.5, the slower Linux build was a more recent trunk build).

Working with large files makes the text tool slow, but tremendously slowler in linux than in windows. I don't think this is a regression wrt to versions earlier than 0.48 (In my initial report I mentioned that the performance difference of the text tool between linux and windows has been around for years). I have no idea how this affects MacOS, but from the above comment I guess it is somehow comparable to windows: there is a noticeable slow down with large files, but not as severe as in linux (where is is really unbearable).

WPF basically respects Windows' blink rate control panel settings. So does Word 2019 on my system. If you want to change the speed of the textbox cursor, you could disable the built-in caret (text cursor) and draw it yourself.

Hi,@ RezaJafery. Are your Word 2010 and Word 2019 tested under the same system? Have you modified the properties of the Windows Keyboard? Base on my tests, the cursors in wpf and Word are blinking according to the Windows Keyboard Properties settings.

Your new laptop's default settings may be slower than what you are used to, but can be modified at any time. Open your Control Panel, type "keyboard" in the Search box, then click "Keyboard" to access your keyboard's settings. Look under the "Character repeat" section and make sure "Repeat delay" is set to "short" and that "Repeat rate" is set to "fast." Click "OK" when you are finished.

Developers must retrieve the blink rate from the system setting. Windows allows users to customize the cursor blink rates through the Control Panel Accessibility Options. Developers can access these settings through the GetCaretBlinkTime function to emulate the system's cursor blink rate for custom cursors or for customized user interface elements. For more information on this technique, see the article "Flashing User Interface and the GetCaretBlinkTime Function" (link resides outside of ibm.com) from Microsoft.

It is somewhat difficult to test the exact rate that something is blinking or flashing. These guidelines provide a practical method of deciding if flashing content is within the 2 to 55 Hz range For slow blinking items: Watch the blinking item, and count the number of blinks that occur in one second. (Or count the number of blinks in 10 seconds, and divide by 10). Verify that no more that two blinks per second occur. For fast blinking items: Most people cannot see a blink rate of more than about 60 Hz. (This is why most computer screens have a refresh rate of 60Hz or faster.) For anything that flashes at a rate of about 55 Hz or more, you will probably not be able to tell that it is flashing at all. Therefore, verify that your eyes cannot perceive any blinking or flickering for the element, unless it is blinking at a rate of 2 times per second or slower.

Ubuntu or other Linux distributions may be slow when you run it within VirtualBox. Often, the cause is that not enough RAM is assigned to the virtual machine, which makes it run slow and makes it unresponsive. However, if your VM already has plenty of RAM and you also already tried assigning an extra virtual CPU core to the machine, this guide might help you make Ubuntu faster in Oracle VM VirtualBox.

Sometimes, there will be cursor blinking in Windows 10 when you are working in the document. It is a very annoying case. Thus, you need to fix this issue as soon as possible. This post will introduce you to some possible reasons for cursor blinking and also show you how to fix this issue. You can get these solutions from MiniTool.

However, cursor blinking in Windows 10 may indicate some problems with a mouse, mouse driver, video problem, or antivirus software. This blinking cursor is annoying and makes everyday computer operations very difficult.

1. Antivirus software can also interfere with the driver software, causing cursor blinking in Windows 10. You need to check the manufacturer and antivirus website for information on product problems and troubleshooting.

3. When the system is active, such as your computer is busy running many programs, or is actively saving files to a hard drive, or is reading CDs or DVDs, cursor blinking in Windows 10 may also appear temporarily.

To make the cursor easier to see, you can enable Increase Contrast, change its size and add a colorful border. To make the circle larger or smaller, open Settings -> Accessibility -> Pointer Control and adjust the Pointer Size slider. 2ff7e9595c
